Last weekend at the beach, I began to re-read George Washington’s World by Genevieve Foster.
It’s a great book. I read it because it’s worth re-reading and counts as bonus points for my AP US History class (yeah, it’s self serving but hey it’s enjoyable school work).
The format of the book is clear and easy to follow. The sections are labeled “When George Washington was a …” The section addresses and follows what happens in that interval of time. In “When GW was a commander,” it talks about the politics in America, and the monarchs of Europe.
The book is enjoyable for kids and teenagers. It’s nonfiction BUT reads like your favorite historical fiction novel.
Here’s some information on Genevieve Foster. She lived from April 13, 1893 – August 30, 1979. Her 19 nonfiction children’s books include Abraham Lincoln’s World, and Augustus Caesar’s World: A Story of Ideas and Events. I think I’ve read about five of her books and they are all terrific!
What’s your favorite historical fiction book? I’m currently enjoying Her Royal Spyness series by Rhys Bowen. Probably a future post….
