Faux Calligraphy

Let’s letter!

Today I want to start with the easiest way to begin lettering: faux calligraphy. You don’t need a fancy pen, paper, or ink. All you need is a pen and paper (it doesn’t matter what kind or brand).

1. Write a word, phrase, or sentence in cursive.

I wrote the word “artist” with a Micron 03 on blank printer paper.

2. Locate “upstrokes” and “down-strokes.”

Thicken “down-strokes” by adding a line to the stroke.

Here’s the final product. You can leave as is or darken the thickened areas.
