thanksgiving

Happy thanksgiving to you and your family! As we celebrate today, I’m reminded of the history behind this holiday and the similarities that our current circumstances share with those of the Civil War.

I recently read this article, which made me think…

A few words on the context of Thanksgiving: George Washington declared a national holiday of Thanksgiving on October 3, 1789. In the years following, Congress proclaimed various days of thanksgiving, but never set an official holiday.

That is, until Abraham Lincoln became president and the Civil War happened, ravaging the country.

I’ll let the article explain the intricacies, but just think how much our time shares with the Civil War. In both times, there’s a world and perspective changing event. There are many deaths. And people are so divided.

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
