Hi, y’all!
I hope you are having a lovely summer, despite coronavirus and all the unrest going on. I recently created a lovely summer vibes art journal spread and thought I would take you along.
Materials used:
- Strathmore mixed media sketchbook
- Tombow Dual Tip markers
- Waterbrush
- DIY stencil
- scrap paper
- white Posca paint pen
Let’s dive in!
✿ step one. find your canvas.

I’m using my mixed media notebook here, but you can use anything from watercolor paper to an art journal constructed out of reused paper. Use whatever’s on hand!
.
✿ step two. add some sunshine.

Using my Tombow Dual Tip markers and a waterbrush, I’ve drawn a beautifully glowy sun with some faux watercoloring! If you’re not familiar with this technique, it’s very simple. Take a smooth surface like a ziploc bag or a plastic CD case like me and swash your marker all over in a patch. Take your wet brush and paint away! Anyway, the splotchy bits look like highlights. 🤩
.
✿ step three. the background is important!

Now we need to decorate the other corner so it’s not so lonely *hehehe*. I’m using a stencil I created based on subway tile and brickwork and a light brown Tombow Dual Tip marker. (If you’re interested in making your own stencil, check this post out!)
.
✿ step four. details and layering.

Taking your scraps of paper, add some layers and texture to your art journal spread. The text is from a magazine article and the brown paper is from an old paper bag. I’ve taken a white paint pen and added some detailing. Can you notice them?
✿ step five. be quotable.

The final step is to add a quote. I’ve lettered a phrase on this tag I’ve cut out. I’ve often found that Goodreads is a great source of quotes. This art spread is so adorable. It’s sweet, simple, and homey in a way.
.
I hope you’ve enjoyed following my art process today! Let me know which was your favorite part in the comments below! I’d love to chat with you 😊

Just found your blog and I’M IN LOVE 💓 I think we blog about a lot of similar things and I adore your posts. Journaling is so fun and I love how you designed this page! How do you like TomBow brush pens? I’m thinking I’ll ask for them for Christmas, they seem really popular and I’ve only heard good things about them 🙂 Loved this 💕

Hi Jasmin! YAY! I’m so glad you found me and I hope you’ll stick around :-D. I absolutely love Tombow Dual Tip Brush markers and also Tombow Fudenoske mark pens. They last me a long time and are definitely worth it.
