Hi, fellow book dragons! (The term bookworm is too gentle and understated!)
(read till the end for a treat)
I love reading books, especially those in the fantasy genre. I’ll be sharing my top fantasy authors.
-
C.S. Lewis
- Ever since I read the Chronicles of Narnia as a child, I’ve fallen in love with Narnia.
- I even played “pretend” with my friends, role-playing as Susan. I fell for the brave girl image with a bow and arrow, armor, and fantasy aspect.
-
J. R. R. Tolkien
- I enjoyed reading The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy so much I read the Silmarillion.
- His works take inspiration from the ancient myths and language of the Celts and Welsh.
- I love how he really made this canon of work seem like the history of a forgotten people, not a make-believe place.
-
Brandon Mull
- I love his Fablehaven series. And the sequel series to that series is just coming out!
- Wrath of the Dragon King: Dragon Watch Book 2 just came out! I borrowed it over winter break and enjoyed reading. However, the ending has me confused…
-
Gail Carson Levine
- She wrote Ella Enchanted, Fairest, Two Sisters of Bamarre.
- I love her adaptations of traditional fairy tales, such like Cinderellis (she switches the gender roles), Lorelai, and others.
- Her books inspire adventure and a return to the magic of childhood.
-
Ridley Pearson
- with David Barry
- They wrote the Starcatcher series, which is based on Peter Pan by James Barrie.
- I really enjoy his Kingdom Keepers series. It focuses on a group of kids whose lives begin to revolve around the Disney parks. Disney villains and heroes and princess and classics come to life in this new interpretation.
- Why wouldn’t you love Disney and fairy tales and adventure all rolled into one?
- with David Barry
-
E. D. Baker
- She has written the Frog Princess series, the Dragon Princess series, and the Wide-Awake Princess series.
- While these books are easy reads and more like reading candy, I enjoy them for the unique way she incorporates fairy tale cliches and stories into a new format.
What fantasy authors do you enjoy? Are you even a fantasy fan? Let’s chat!

I LOVED Chronicles of Narnia when I was little too!! And I haven’t actually read Ella Enchanted, but my siblings and I watched the movie version a bunch when we were younger and I loved that too.
